Step-BY-Step How To Refurbished Table
Here is our process, our story.
Here is our process, our story.
STEP 1: Collect supplies
Oh WAIT!!! Two more things...
A helpful Hubby and a darling doggie. Aren't they precious-OK back to the steps.
*The only things not pictured were clothes. We used these to remove saw dust and extra stain.
STEP 2:
Sand, Sand, and Sand
We used fine with the hand sander. We striped it completely because there was so much damage to the top like paint, scratches, stains. You don't have to do this-use your best judgement.
Step 3: Precondition Wood
We wanted to do this because we knew we would be stripping. This process goes quickly so have your materials close by because you don't want your per-conditioner to soak in TOO much.
For this reason I don't have any pictures.
Step 4: Stain
This is the fun part! Deep breath...Stain. I had so many things rushthrough my head right before I put the sponge brush to the table. Now I know I made the right decision. Some lessons I learned from this process.
DON'T be AFRAID of the StAiN!!
If we could go back we'd keep our stain on the surface longer the first coat. If you want dark then leave it on there for fifteen minutes. Yeah you heard me.
Step 5: Wipe away
Step 6: Sand
Sand very lightly.
Step 7: Stain again as needed until you like the color.
Yep! I it.
Step 8: Polyurethane
I recommend a thick coat. This acts as your barrier from all sources ie-sticky fingers, setting tables, hot food dishes, etc. destroying your stain job that you worked so hard at perfecting.
